Christian group counseling activities in Carrollton, Texas can open a door for encouragement, support, bonding, problem solving, goal setting, and processing and releasing emotions. Often, people bond with one or two participants in a group.
There are several group counseling activities you can engage in, depending on the goals of the group.
Christian Group Counseling Activities to Build Spiritual Strength
Counseling should address the whole person: mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Learning to lean into and trust God when life feels overwhelming will help you grow spiritually and strengthen your relationship with Jesus. As you view issues through a Biblical lens, you can see God’s hand in your life and in the lives of others. Christian group counseling activities build spiritual strength and your relationship with God.
Prayer Group
Bringing your requests to God, honoring Him for what He has done and who He is, and talking with Him will bring you closer to Him, leaving you with a sense of peace. Life is a struggle sometimes, and God knows that. It is why He sent His Son, Jesus, to experience it firsthand. We don’t have a Savior who doesn’t know what it is like to be human. A prayer group allows participants to request prayer for one another and share answered prayers.
Bible Study
When you are interested in someone, you want to know more about them. You read their social media pages and posts, watch their videos, or listen to their music. You do everything you can to get to know them better. Bible study is an effective way to get to know God better. His fingerprint is on every book of the Bible. Studying with others in a group provides the opportunity to discuss what you read and how it is relevant to your life.
Topic Groups Based on Biblical Principles
Sometimes you need support in a specific area, and others are experiencing the same issue. Whether it is a group for participants grieving a loss, a group specifically for men or women, or a group for single parents, topic groups provide encouragement, advice, and support combined with Biblical principles. Participants can teach you how to live a Christ-like life while managing problems.
Group Counseling Activities to Express Emotions, Solve Problems, and Set Goals
Christian group counseling activities can cover expressing emotions, problem-solving, goal-setting, identity, and life skills. Learning to trust others and build self-confidence occurs through participating in groups.
Role Playing Scenarios
Role-playing scenarios help participants address a problem and find ways to manage it by practicing what they would say or do in a situation. If a participant is having an issue, they can discuss it with the group. Then the host can help other participants role-play with the member who is having problems to know what to say or do. For example, if a member is having difficulty setting boundaries with family, they can roleplay scenarios with other participants.
Problem-Solving Jar
A problem-solving jar, also referred to as a trust jar, enables participants to learn more about a topic and how to manage situations without feeling vulnerable. Each participant writes a problem on a slip of paper and drops it into the jar. The jar is shaken, and then the participants take turns pulling a slip from the jar. Each slip is read, and members brainstorm ideas or roleplay to find solutions to the problem.
Creative Outlets
Creative activities are great opportunities for bonding and emotional expression. Activities such as painting, drawing, writing, and scrapbooking are all excellent ways to release emotions. If you feel bold, discuss your project with the others and explain the deeper meaning behind it. Consider questions like: What drew you to a particular color or word choice?
Vision Board
An excellent activity at the beginning of the year or a new season is to create individualized vision boards. Use these boards to set goals and to realize dreams. Perhaps there are things you would really like to see accomplished this year. The group can create their own boards using poster board, scrapbooking paper, pictures cut from magazines, and block letters. Each participant can discuss why they chose specific photographs or words.
Group Therapy Available Locally and Virtually
You can now participate in Christian group counseling activities locally or virtually from the comfort of your own home. Although virtual sessions appeal to many people, in-person sessions allow you to participate in specific activities, such as the problem-solving (trust) jar. Discuss the various formats available with your counselor. Contact us today at Texas Christian Counseling in Carrollton to get started.
